MBA Provision
A new provision was introduced to the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP) for Masters in Business Administration (MBA) graduates of particular MBA programmes from 12 April 2005. The MBA is one of the most recognised and respected management qualifications. This provision alone awards qualifying applicants the full 75 points required to earn a HSMP visa.
The HSMP MBA Provision is aimed at attracting qualified and talented graduates of the top 50 business schools on the completion of their MBA. The Treasury published the first list of HSMP eligible MBA programmes on 2 December 2004. Schools may be added or removed depending on whether they satisfy the following criteria.
The 50 eligible MBA programmes are determined by applying criteria which best reflect the potential economic productive contribution of graduates:
- Post-graduation earnings, the primary measure of productivity
- Employment, essential to realise productive potential
This is not a rival list to other independent rankings such as that produced by the Financial Times. The list is generated through an assessment of economic impacts only.
You must meet the following criteria to qualify for the MBA Provision leading to the award of the full number of points required to qualify for HSMP:
- you must graduate while their course is on the list of HSMP eligible MBA programmes you must have graduated with an MBA degree although you may not have previous experience in your chosen field, you should know what field you intend to specialise in while working in the UK
If you have graduated from an institution that was on the list at the time of your graduation but has since been removed from the list, do not be concerned as you are still entitled to apply for the MBA provision.
You cannot submit an application claim for MBA provision until you have completed the course. You can apply for the provision even if you have not yet received your graduation certificate or attended the graduation ceremony, as long as you have completed the course.
You will not be eligible to apply for the MBA provision if you graduated prior to the list being published. Those who have graduated from an MBA programme before 2 December 2004, when the list was first released, are not eligible. However, you may qualify under the regular HSMP.
If you have graduated from an MBA programme but the institution is not on the list of eligible schools at the time of graduation you will not be entitled to apply under the MBA provision. However, you may qualify under the regular HSMP.
The MBA Provision only applies to those who have obtained an MBA. If you have completed another qualification you will not be eligible to apply for the MBA Provision. Those who studied a different course at an eligible school are not eligible. However, you may qualify under the regular HSMP.
If you studied for your MBA at an institution while it was on the list, but at graduation the institution was no longer on the list, you will not be entitled to apply for the MBA Provision.
